Collectorate

Location : Erode

Built Area : 12000 Sq.ft

Type : Public

For this project, we were commissioned to design the district collector's office cabin, the central public gathering space, as well as to create subtle details for the entry porch. Governmental bodies have established a set of design standards that must be adhered to, and we cannot deviate from them. As part of the process of designing the place, our objective was to illustrate its richness and majestic nature. We were sensitive to retaining the existing government design guidelines.

A delicate marble and brass strip backdrop wall adorns the collector's room. The state emblem of Tamil Nadu graces the highlight wall, which signals a serious commitment to administrative policies. There were wood ceilings and floors, while the rest of the furnishings were kept minimalistic with white gloss cabinets flanking the collector's desk. The waiting area is enclosed by a fabric-finished partition that provides an additional touch of privacy.

To create some breathing space within the complex, we introduced landscape gardens both vertically and horizontally in the central arena where people can gather and move around. A holistic approach to open sky spaces creates a three-dimensional sense of artistic realism, while the flow of materiality completes the design.
